Sydney Fish Market
The Fish Market is one of our favorite places in Sydney—maybe even the world. It’s where we go before and after trips overseas, on Valentine’s Day, our anniversary, and sometimes just because! If you visit, we highly recommend the aburi salmon scallops, and oysters from Christie’s, as well as the sashimi from Nicholas’ Seafood (Kingfish is our top choice).
Sydney Opera House to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair
Ours is a COVID love story—born after the first lockdown and sealed during the second. With walks being one of the only ways to spend time together back then, we wandered all over Sydney, and this spot quickly became a favorite. Walk along the harbour, through the Royal Botanic Gardens, and up to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair for a stunning view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. If you can, time your walk for late afternoon. The sunset reflects beautifully on the water, a perfect reminder of why we love this city!
Coogee to Bondi Coastal Walk
We’ve done this walk countless times, and it never gets old. The 6km coastal trail from Coogee to Bondi Beach offers breathtaking views, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot some whales along the way. It’s a beautiful and refreshing experience that we can’t recommend enough. And after the walk, be sure to treat yourself to a well-earned meal at one of Bondi’s many great spots!
Manly Beach
We love fish and chips, and we love the beach. What better place to enjoy both than Manly? Take a scenic ferry ride from Circular Quay to Manly Beach, famous for its golden sand, great surf (we don’t surf), and laid-back Aussie vibe. Grab some fish and chips by the water, but watch out for the seagulls! You can also take the coastal walk to Shelly Beach or have a swim if you’re brave enough to handle the chilly water. For beer lovers, 4 Pines Brewpub is just a short walk from the beach and a perfect spot to relax.
The Blue Mountains
This is where we got engaged! Just a 2.5-hour drive or train ride from Central Sydney, the Blue Mountains is home to some of Australia’s iconic natural wonders. While you’re there, don’t miss the chance to try a potato-top pie (Joe’s favourite) from Bakehouse on Wentworth in Leura—or if it’s a chilly day, warm up with a rich hot chocolate from Josophan’s Fine Chocolate (our favourite).
